Perlan Museum

Perlan, Iceland

Perlan Museum – Wonders of Iceland, Iceland´s first glacier exhibition opened this summer at Perlan the iconic building in the centre of Reykjavik. The first phase of this exhibition gives visitors the freezing experience of a „glacial walk“ through real ice tunnels and also to enjoy the view from on top of Iceland´s largest glacier Vatnajökull. Through these unique experiences, visitors gain extensive knowledge of the different types of glaciers, their behavior, the life they support and much, much more.

Gagarin was responsible for the design of three interactive installations which were produced in collaboration with leading scientists in glaciology. Other collaborators were Kontrast, Samey, and Upptekið. The second phase of the exhibition is scheduled to open in summer 2018.

On top of Vatnajokull

This 180 degrees immersive Vatnajökull experience shows a living view from the top of the glacier as if you were standing *right there. The projected panorama is a fully dynamic image in which several phenomena are triggered, illustrated and animated when visitors interact with the scenery by pointing to indicated spots on the image. Life in and on glaciers

Through monoculars, visitors can zoom into a glacier and study the surreal flora and fauna that can be found there. Every zoom level is accompanied by information and a microscopic view of the different life forms living in and on top of the glacier.

Disappearing glaciers

This time table allows visitors to see the predicted lifetime of Iceland´s glaciers.

As the scientific truth is revealed visitors see the shrinking glaciers, floods, landrise, increase of volcanic activity and more, before learning the shocking answer.
